Lost Squadron's Supermarine Spitfire Hat is an Aussie style Outback Hat made of 100% heavy cotton canvas.
It has our trademarked camo Spitfire design on the front, and a British Roundel on the back.
The Supermarine Spitfire was one of the most famous fighter planes of the second world war. Powered by Rolls Royce Merlin or Rolls Royce Griffon engines it was fast and agile reaching speeds of 600mph. Twenty-four different versions of Spitfires were made by Supermarine. The Spitfire evolved from Supermarine racing planes in the 1920s and 30s. These aircraft won the Schneider Trophy race and were the first aircraft to go over 400 mph. These fast Supermarine racing aircraft helped technology evolve and create the Spitfire, one of the fastest and best dog-fighting aircraft in WWII. and we like racing fast airplanes..
For many years we wanted to make this Spitfire hat. It quickly became one of our best selling products after it's introduction in early 2012.
We think Roger's Lost Squadron Spitfire hat is the best hat for air shows, since it provides better sun protection
and style for those of us who don't like wearing ball caps, like one of our owners Roger. (Roger prefers this style of hat because he usually has a camera to his face and a brimmed hat works better than a cap when shooting so we call it "Roger's Spitfire Hat".)
Lost Squadron owners Roger and Paul have been "testing" the hats for months in the sun, snow, dust and rain. They are great hats and have this to say about the features: The locking draw
cord is great when it gets windy on the ramp while the brass eyelets help keep
you cool. Two side snaps make it easy to wear the brim up or down.
Wondering about sizes? This hat comes in one-size from our manufacturer and is shrink-to-fit. We've had great success custom fitting the hat by washing and drying it varying amounts depending upon how much shrinking is required. A perfect custom fit can be achieved by doing this.
The hats come right off the shelf in XL (7 3/4). This was a bit too big for Roger so he washed his in cold, then dried on medium for 20 minutes. Perfect! Paul's head is much smaller so he washed his twice in hot and dried twice on regular for 40 minutes and got a custom fit Small (6 7/8.) .
If a very small size is what you're after, a small band of fabric may be added within the hat band as well. As a final touch, ironing the brim of the hat after the custom fitting/shrink process gives it the new crisp look.
